The dark Tony Award-winning revival takes on new timeliness with the recent rise of European anti-Semitism. Alan Cumming rivetingly reprises his performance as emcee—by turns decadent Everyman, Nazi supporter and, finally, yellow badge-wearing Jew. Danny Burstein, singing robustly (“Married”) as Schultz, is haunting as the self-deluded Jewish fruit seller overconfident about being a German citizen in pre-Holocaust Berlin. The musical, also starring Michelle Williams, remains as entertaining yet disturbing as ever. Through January 4, 2015, at Studio 54 on Broadway.
