Heart Song
This unique comedy-drama by Stephen Sachs pays tribute to the art of flamenco through the lens of one Jewish woman’s midlife crisis. Poignant and ambitious in its thematic scope, it tells the story of Rochelle, a 50-something New Yorker mourning her mother’s recent death, who reluctantly agrees to attend a flamenco class. Initially convinced that “Jews don’t do flamenco,” Rochelle learns about the Jewish connection to the Spanish art form that ultimately helps her confront the truth of her mother’s legacy. Through August 25 at The Fountain Theatre, Los Angeles (323-663-1525; www.fountaintheatre.com). — Susan Josephs
