Hadassah Hospital Gets Cameo in Daniel Silva Thriller
Daniel Silva’s latest thriller, The Black Widow, starring the ever-intense, ever-brilliant spymaster Gabriel Allon, will satisfy readers who enjoy the best-selling author’s brand of suspense and globetrotting in service of Israel. But Hadassah members will delight in another element in the book: Silva’s glowing description of the Hadassah Medical Center—where the Mossad has just chosen a woman doctor they deem a perfect recruit for an undercover operation:
“Inevitably, the wounded and the dying were rushed to Hadassah Medical Center, Israel’s primary Level 1 trauma facility. [T]he hospital’s remarkable team of doctors and nurses routinely cared for the victims of the world’s oldest conflict—the shattered survivors of suicide bombings, the IDF soldiers wounded in combat….”
Silva writes that Hadassah Medical Center does not distinguish “between Arab and Jew, victim and perpetrator.” They treat everyone, “including some of Israel’s mot dangerous enemies.”
Hadassah loyalists will enjoy knowing that Silva’s real-life description of Hadassah Hospital’s talented staff and medical ethics—so familiar to them—is being read by the great number of faithful fans of the popular Gabriel Allon series, perennial best sellers.
