Fiddler on the Roof
Actor Danny Burstein makes the role of Tevye his own in this tender and exuberant revival of Fiddler on the Roof, 50 years after the Tony Award-winning musical first debuted on Broadway.
With an understated humanity, a strong, warm baritone and less eye-rolling shtick than some of his predecessors, Burstein allows each line and lyric to shine, bringing fresh opportunities for laughter and weeping. Fiddler on the Roof has rarely ever looked so good.
Director Bartlett Sher frames the classic story in a contemporary light and Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter adds a modern dance twist. Jessica Hecht plays Golde, and the supporting cast is excellent. Open run at the Broadway Theatre.
