On View: Baseball Dreams and Contemporary Jewish Landscapes
Chasing Dreams: Baseball & Becoming American
This exhibit focuses on the role baseball played in helping Jews and other minorities feel comfortable in the United States. It features 130 original objects from Hall of Famers: Sandy Koufax jerseys and Hank Greenberg’s 1935 MVP award. Female involvement is acknowledged—Justine Siegal was the first woman to pitch at a major league batting practice. Through October 26 at the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia. —Peter Ephross
“Urban Landscapes,” “Hipsters & Hassids” and “We Are Patriarchs”
This three-series retrospective by Elke Reva Sudin displays 55 acrylic and oil paintings with renditions of contemporary life and Jewish tradition. Colorful panoramas of New York make up “Urban Landscapes.” “Hipsters & Hassids” highlights the religious and secular divide in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. “We Are Patriarchs” reimagines modern Jewish innovators as biblical leaders using classical, graffiti and Japanese influences.
