Night Begins the Day: Rethinking Space, Time, and Beauty
Inspired by the Jewish idea that day begins at sundown, this ambitious display of multimedia works by international artists attempts to give visual (and sometimes auditory) concreteness to ideas such as space, time, beauty and the 18th-century notion of the sublime. There are depictions of galaxies, explosions and landscapes plus 80 almost identical small paintings of a water glass and a crocheted facsimile of a coral reef. Daniel Crooks’ streetscape is above. Through September 20 at San Francisco’s Contemporary Jewish Museum.
